Bokèo is a northern province of Laos. It is the smallest and least populous province in Laos.
For most people they enter Bokeo when crossing via land from Thailand. I love going from Luang prabang up the Mekong River to Huay Xai, in Bokeo Province and into Thailand, it is a magic few days.
I spent some time in Bokeo over Lao New Year (Pi Mai). It is quieter than the crazy time in Luang Prabang. A highlight was bumping into fisherman at work on the Mekong River which forms the border between Lao and Thailand.
I was asked to help with the boats and soon felt like a master boat driver, it was certainly a lot of fun. Cooking and eating the small fish in a bamboo hut on the river was an entertaining way to spend the afternoon.
