Laos COVID Vaccine update
The sixth batch of China-donated Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines has been handed over to Laos this week upon arrival at the Lao capital Vientiane on Wednesday. A million doses were donated. China is trying to donate 6.8 million doses in 2021. Laos has a population of approximately 7 million people.
The Republic of Korea will also deliver 500,000 doses of AstraZeneca this week the Director-General of the Department of Hygiene and Health Promotion Dr Phonepaseuth Ounaphome announced.
Meanwhile Russia has donated 30,000 Sputnik vaccine doses on 6 October to the Lao Health Ministry.
The new deliveries will bolster Laos’ efforts to vaccinate at least 50 percent of the population by the end of this year.
Dr Phonepaseuth highlighted the importance of vaccination in overcoming the COVID crisis, urging people in all at-risk groups to come forward and be vaccinated, to minimize the impacts on people’s health and the economy.
