Blessings from a scholarship student

15 Jul , 2020

Monk Sivone was a LEOT students and was successful in getting a scholarship to continue his study. He is one of the most motivated students I have met. He is completing his studies this year and had this to say:

My name is Phra Sivone Keovilaipunya who was born and raised in the countryside at HADSUA Village. In 2016, I was one of luckiest students who was given a chance to get a scholarship at LEOT SCHOOL in order to continue my further education at a university in Chiang Mai, Thailand. For those of you who accidentally came across this context, you might have some doubts as to why, giving a scholarship is similar as giving a chance? Personally to me, I think no matter what happens in our lives, whether negative or positive things, it’s about the opportunity for changing and proving ourselves. It’s the same as education when teachers, parents give us a chance to start, we have to do our best to finish the tasks.

When I got a scholarship at LEOT SCHOOL in 2016 I then headed to Chiang Mai alone. I knew only two of my friends there and the temple’s name. The bus to Chiang Mai took me around 11 hours and it was my first and longest journey in my life. I honestly didn’t know anything about Chiang Mai at that time (at least just its name haha).

During my time at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU), I can say that I was not a really intelligent person. Namely, in the first year of studying, I got a lot of C+ and also D+, but because I liked studying, I enjoyed what I had decided to do. So I have been improving myself a lot for the past 4 years and finally I got a GDP: 3.08 in the major of Bachelor of Arts Program in English. I tried to join as many activities as I could there, even though there were not a lot of activities in the university, but I did my best to join in outdoor activities. And in the evening, I also took some time to study extra Chinese courses until I was able to pass the HSK III.

All of these things wouldn’t have happened without your support from the LEOT SCHOOL and my dear teachers and friends who have helped me all along the way. Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to AJanh Peter, Ajanh Jeannette, Ajanh Jutta, Ajanh David+3, Ajanh Patrick, Ajanh Alan, Ajanh Carol, Ajanh Say, Ajanh Tong, Ajanh Bounchan and also to all my university lecturers and friends. These people have been so influential in my life so far. I think without your support and encouragement I wouldn’t have been able to come so far like this.

Last but not least as a custom of a monk, I would like to give you blessings. May all of you be free from all sufferings. May all of you be free from all dangers. May all of you be happy and have good health.
