Luang Prabang Takes Bold Step Toward Sustainable Tourism with Free Transit Launch

24 Feb , 2025

In an exciting development for both residents and visitors, Luang Prabang is launching a groundbreaking free transportation initiative this week. Starting February 24th through March 2nd, 2025, the UNESCO World Heritage city will offer complimentary bus and tuk-tuk services throughout its historic peninsula area, marking a significant step toward sustainable urban transportation.

A New Vision for Urban Mobility

The initiative, part of the “Sustainable Urban and Transport Management in Luang Prabang” project, represents a collaboration between the Lao Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the Luang Prabang Department of Public Works and Transport, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The primary goal is to enhance the preservation of this beloved World Heritage site while improving accessibility for everyone.
