When I get time off, what better way to spend an afternoon than chilling out in a river hut?
Just outside Luang Prabang, 30 mins up the Mekong river are a number of huts where you can relax and eat great Lao food and cool drinks.
It does feel like a bit of a special treat to enjoy such a beautiful, peaceful view, with great service and food. Kids casually swim past in the river, mostly being pushed bu the current. They cut through the water between tied-up boats towards land and race back up only to float down again. They were clearly having fun with much laughing and smiling.
The other huts were abandoned this particular day the only other occupant being a small snake eating a scorpion on the table in the adjoining hut. Luckily there was some water between huts so my heart rate didn’t increase at all and I continued to help out my friend with his laptop problems. Sometimes there really is no escaping fixing computers when I am in Laos!
As we left and walked to land to settle our bill, we passed a very happy, healthy looking dog enjoying the good life living in such a beautiful spot in Luang Prabang, Laos.
