Do you have an unused smartphone you can donate for a student in Laos?
Laos is a communist country with a population of 6.477.211 people. The GDP per capita is $2700 USD, with 67% of the population living outside of urban centers. Laos has a very young population, with a median age of 21 years. Laos relies on textile industries and tourism for much of its income.
530,000 people have Internet access (8.1% of population). 25% of these use FaceBook as their main communication app. Androids are popular as there is a Lao language pack available, but all smartphones are appreciated as it gives people Internet access and the ability to communicate and learn.
Smartphones are hard to come by and expensive and out of reach for most Lao people where the average monthly wage is $150.
If you can donate a phone please contact me or post to PO Box 24069, Manners Street, Wellington 6142.
